It is part of Claude now. On 16 September 2026 Anthropic announced that chat and Cowork are merging into one Claude, rolling out to Pro and Max first. Claude Code stays separate, in its own Code tab.

Do I need a terminal to use Claude Code?

No. Claude Code runs in the Code tab of the Claude desktop app, on the web at claude.ai/code and in the mobile app. The terminal version is there for people who want more control.

Claude or Claude Code: which one should I start with?
